Fear has gripped residents of Natete Village in Chihe Parish, Nyakinama Sub County, Kisoro District, after two armed robbers stormed a local trading center on Thursday night and made away with millions of shillings and several mobile phones.
The daring attack occurred at around 10:00 pm on June 5, 2025, as a group of businessmen were gathered at the shop of one Irankunda Rogers, sharing a local brew, commonly known as Kashera.
According to police reports, one of the assailants was armed with an AK-47 rifle while the other wore a face mask. The gunmen ordered their victims to lie down and surrender all belongings or face death.
Initially mistaking the assailants for security personnel, the victims hesitated to comply—until the armed thug fired a warning shot into the air, forcing them to obey out of fear.
During the attack, the robbers stole:
- UGX 800,000 and two phones from Irankunda Rogers
- UGX 580,000 and two phones from Kiizakola Silvan
- UGX 18,000 and a smartphone from Kamugisha Gideon
- UGX 2 million and a smartphone from Busekuro Stephen
The attackers also ransacked Rogers’ shop, seizing additional cash before firing multiple random shots while fleeing.
Police say no one was injured during the robbery.
Kisoro District Police Commander (DPC), SP Nuwamanya, alongside UPDF officers and a canine unit, responded promptly to the scene. A team of detectives recovered three spent cartridges, two live bullets, and one projectile. Crucially, the shop had CCTV cameras which captured footage of the entire incident—offering vital leads for investigators.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, confirmed that inquiries are ongoing. “Anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of these criminals should come forward,” he appealed.
The incident has sparked renewed concern over security in the area, with residents calling for increased police patrols to curb rising armed robberies.
