Police in Bududa district have arrested a 30-year-old man for illegally earning a full year’s salary by impersonating a teacher.
According to the authorities, the suspect forged appointment letter from the Education Service Commission to access the payroll.
Elgon Regional Police Spokesperson, Rogers Taitika has confirmed this report and identifed the suspect as Prosper Wambalya.
Wambalya with the help of others still at large, forged appointment letter indicating that he had been posted to work as a teacher at Bulucheke Secondary School.
Early 2022, Wambalya presented the alleged forged appointment and posting letters from ministry of Education and sports to Bulucheke administration and started teaching.
“He has been in this school since March upto May of this year when this crime was detected. He is being investigated with Many others still at large who are suspected to have connieved and committed these crimes,” Taitika told the Eye Media.
The charge sheet accuses the teacher of obtaining money by false pretence, forgery, creating a false document and conspiracy to commit a felony.
Their crime, which goes against sections of the Penal Code Act, 1950, led to a financial loss of about UShs 62 million.
Bulucheke Secondary School head teacher, Edward Mukhwana confimed that Wambalya has been in his school.
