Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Patrick Onyango has said that on June 19, 2023 at around10:00 am, the police received information about suspected robbers hiding in Nabukeny’s bar located in Budonian village, Mengo, Central Kampala.
It is said that the same group had a fight using a panga due to sharing of what they had looted in the previous night.
On a tip off, a joint team responded to the scene and mounted an operation in which over 13 suspects were arrested.
The suspects were caught with house break-in implements.
“Police conducted a search and recovered the implements to wit; a hammer, panga and a locally made padlock opener,” Onyango said in a statement on Thursday June 22, 2023.
Onyango says, with the help of local leaders, the suspects were and 08 were charged of being in possession of house break-in implements.
Some suspects were got with fresh wounds as a result of their fight after failing to share the loot.
Onyango identified the wounded as Abdul
Sselukambo, John Nkurunziza and Haqsam Mukwaya.
The Old Kampala police also conducted another operation in which nine suspects were netted.
The operation was carried out in the areas of Bakuli market, behind Total fuel petrol station.
“This particular operation mainly targeted hardcore criminals due to public outcry and increased criminality in the area,” Onyango told us on Thursday.
“Residents had reported cases such as phone snatching, opium and marijuana smoking, and robberies among others,” he added.
The police identified the suspects who are in custody at Old Kamapala Police Station as Lungiso Jamir, Annes David and Mulangira Ronald. Others are Kyeune Derick, Edirisa Edie, Agaba Pacias Mwine Abbias and Sebagala Moses
