The Deputy Resident District Commissioner of Namayingo District, Trevor Solomn Baleke has attributed the high Poverty levels to intrigue, envy and Corruption among the people of Busoga.

According to the concerned Deputy RDC, Busoga subregion has held big positions in government including Vice President,  Speaker,  Chief Justice, NRM Secretary General and Ministerial positions among others but nothing has changed.

While featuring on Jinja based Baba FM hosted by Osman Kalyowa, Baleke observed that the current Executive Director of the National Planning Authority (NPA), Dr Joseph Muvawala and his counterpart Eng Ziria Tibalwa Waako of Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) are from Busoga adding that even the best Engineers and Doctors come from Busoga.

“And I hear some people alleging that these leaders have not helped this region to develop. In my view, most of those people have done their part but the biggest problem is with the abasoga themselves – the led,” said Trevor Solomon Baleke.

Quoting Romans 1:29 -30, Baleke a former Catechist, said Busoga being is held back by malice, greed, intrigue, envy, strife and deceit which filled the hearts of the people in the region and not only the leaders.

“Those who have wished bad luck to their neighbours’ children ended up forcing these successful children into deserting to Buganda and in towns. Some people here sit and only plot how to pull others down, including those who have the capacity of helping this region.

Busoga’s successful people fear to invest in their backyard because of intrigue and witchcraft among community members.

This might seem small and minor but it is the truth. Abasoga have filled up Kampala and Mukono because of illicit behaviours back home,” emphasized Baleke.

The Deputy RDC rubbished claims that government was to blame for the biting poverty in Busoga. According to him,.enough interventions have been done.

“All programs which have excelled elsewhere have also been extended to Busoga. But those supposed to execute these programs have instead stolen what is meant for their poor relatives.

Government has injected over 10 billion in Busoga under Emyooga. But where are the success stories? Shs 100,000, 000 is sent to every parish under PDM but who are the ones mismanaging this program and extorting the vulnerable beneficiaries? I even hear some peoppe from this region talking negativelyabout PDM. Some are even local local,” wondered Baleke

Baleke said it is until abasoga work on their character and get out of being insolent, haughty, boastful and inventors of confusion that the region shall regain its lost glory.

“For generation after generation, we have wanted to hand down a better Busoga for our children. But instead of working on ourselves, we keep lamenting about government and backstabbing our leaders,” he said.

He was discussing alongside educationist-turned-politician Robert Kalulu who declared intentions to contest for Buzaaya County MP seat in 2026.

Kalulu said on the show that Busoga is as it is because “our leaders have not helped to show the people a direction.”

On the show also featured Counsel Ian Waiswa of Kigulu South.

Listeners who contributed through phone calls lauded the Deputy RDC “for saying the truth.”
