After a long wait for the Construction of new Soroti District headquarters, reports indicate that plans have kicked off as the district authorities have agreed to contract UPDF Engineering Brigade
A source at the District who preferred anonymity reveals that the final hand over of the construction site shall be done on Friday July 7, 2023 at Kantine.
This comes when the District Council is highly divided over which sub County should host the new Soroti District Administration headquarters though some councilors suggest the district headquarters should be constructed in Arapai sub county others are opposing the idea.
With the latest development for site handover on Friday this week, the public remains waiting for final decision of the district bosses.
An insider told The Eye Media that money has already been transferred to the UPDF Engineering Brigade awaiting site handover on Friday.
Ssalim Kumakech the Resident District Commissioner confirmed this development saying UPDF Engineering Brigade is a reputable government entity.
“I’m happy that the construction is going to be undertaken by the UPDF engineering brigade, a government entity. It’s one of the entities with reputable discipline in their method of work. I am highly expectant that there is going to be an exhibition of discipline by the UPDF engineering brigade” he said.
He quoted that the engineering brigade has done excellent work at Soroti regional referral hospital where an oxygen plant has been constructed.
“It’s also going to limit this element of civil servants demanding kickback from contractors. This will prevent the vultures that look into government funds as an opportunity for them to eat” he said.
After the creation of Soroti City, the Local government Act dictates that District should be relocated from the District since the two entities are at the same level in Local Government hierarchy.
