A retired Assistant Inspector of Police was on Thurday July 6, 2023 strangled dead by unknown assailants who also disappeared with shs 5,200,000 he had just withdrawn from Centenary Bank, Rukungiri branch.
The deceased has been identified as Emmanuel Karekaho, 61, a resident of Kyeshoro village, Nyabitete parish, Buyanja sub county in the Rukungiri.
Police say that the retired officer withdrew the money at exactly 11:42am on Thursday July 6, 2023 but later at around 3:30pm he was discovered dead at Rwakoma cell, Kebisoni town council Rukungiri district with no coin on him.
The lifeless body of Karekaho was discovered by a resident identified as Patrick Magezi who found it dumped by the roadside and notified the police.
“According to the area residents, an unidentified Toyota wish motor vehicle was seen parked at the scene before the body was discovered,” said Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, Elly Maate Thursday evening.
Police took the body to Rwakabengo HC 3 for Postmortem as inquiries continue.
