Police in Jinja have intercepted and arrested a man carrying animal carcasses and headless chicken packed inside a sack along Jinja-Iganga Highway.

Kiira Police Spokesperson Mr James Mubi said the rider was stopped by the integrated security highway patrol operation at 6am and upon checking they found four carcasses of goats and nine slaughtered chicken.
The man who had a knife was transporting the carcasses from Iganga side to Bugembe in Jinja North
Mr Mubi said the suspect whose name has been withheld not to jeopardise investigations is being interrogated to help security identify others who work with him to transport meat in such unacceptable manner.
“They slaughtered the goats and chicken suspected to be stolen and packed them in a sack transporting to Bugembe for mochomo along the highway”,said Mr Mubi.
However,Mr Mubi cautioned the public that they should always buy meat from reliable meat sellers in the butcheries.
Mr Mubi said the suspect and the exhibits were handed to Veterinary officer to assist police in further investigations.
Ideally animals are to be slaughtered in an abattoir after examining the meat by health workers to ensure the meat for consumption is good.
