A 30-year-old Jacklyn Akankwatsa is in police custody at Rukungiri Central Police Station on charges of murder of her 7-year-old daughter, Pamela Kwikiriza.
Akankwatsa allegedly committed the crime around 5:00pm of July 5, 2023 from her home in Nyarubira village, Nyakishenyi sub county, Rukungiri district.
The mother of four was in the process of shaving all her children when the deceased objected the mother’s plan and ran away.
The act of refusing to be shaved annoyed the mother prompting her to direct the three children to run after her to be shaved.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, Elly Maate told the media on Thursday evening that Akankwatsa then caned her daughter several times on the battocks.
“Kwikiriza was then taken home and shaved by force but in so doing, she complained of stomachache and requested to go and rest. As she was standing, she fell unconscious and as the mother was taking her for medication, she died on the way,” said Maate.
Police say they were informed about the incident by the area LCI chairman, Silvano Tweheyo and Akankwatsa was arrested.
“A case of murder was registered ……, body conveyed to Rwakabengo health center III for Postmortem to ascertain the actual cause of the death and Jackline was arrested to assist the Police in the ongoing investigations,” confirmed the Regional Police spokesperson.
