Cargo worth millions of cash was Wednesday August 16, 2023 lost when fire gutted a truck belonging to World Food Programme (WFP) while in transit.
The mid morning incident happened at Mayengo near Katuna border in Katuna town council Kabale District when trailer No UAS 134R carrying maize caught fire.
The truck was burnt to ashes without intervention from Police because all the fire fighting equipment in the region are grounded, according to Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, Elly Maate.
Maate says all fire brigade trucks in his area are grounded and their efforts to get the fire fighting machines repaired by the Police headquarters have not yielded fruits.
Maate attributes the cause of fire to poor wiring of the truck.
No life was affected.
