Jinja City police have in custody a 29-year-old Ali Kiwanuka, a boda boda rider on accusations of rapping a passenger.
A resident of Nawanganda Namatoro village, Busede sub county in Jinja district, Kiwanuka is known for operating his transport duties in the districts of Iganga, Mayuge, Luuka, Jinja city, Jinja district and Njeru municipality with purported aims of targeting female passengers.
His reported irritating objectives are raping and robbing them.
According to police, between the night of May 21 and May 22, 2024 the 25 year old victim whose identities we have preferred to conceal sought motorcycle services of the suspect at Dunlop in Jinja city enroute to Buwenge Town Council in Jinja district to a tune of shs15,000 at around 8:00pm.
Kiwanuka implemented his habits when he reportedly seduced the passenger to have sex with but she turned down.
It is alleged further that when he reached an isolated Nile ply forest at Mutai along Jinja-Kamuli road, Kiwanuka wrestled her to the ground, tore her knickers and forcefully with aid of sharp objects had carnal knowledge with her.
He didn’t end at rape but further allegations indicate that he robbed her of fifteen thousand shillings and Infinix mobile phone.
Kiira region police spokesperson, James Mubi told The Eye Media, Friday May 24, 2024 that the suspect was found with the stolen items at the time of his arrest.
“He had even placed his Airtel line in the victim’s phone,’ Mubi confirmed who said CCTV cameras played a pivotal role in helping to have the suspect arrested.
Kiwanuka’s motorcycle CT 125 registration number UFX 657Z was also recovered.
“The CPS Jinja Central CCTV control room used the number plate to trace, identify and arrest Ali Kiwanuka on Thursday, May 23, 2024 from his residence in Nawanganda Namatoro village, Busede sub county, Jinja district,” said Mubi.
“Kiira regional police command strongly cautions boda boda operators to desist from taking part in criminal activities that lead to breach of public trust,” Mubi emphasised.
The victim was offered Post-Exposure prophylaxis (PEP) treatment to rule out the possibility of being infected with HIV. Prosecution guided investigations ongoing.
It should be noted that in the late month of March 2024, a maid who was working in Maya-Nsangi Wakiso district was allegedly raped by boda boda cyclist who was supposed to take her to Kamuli district but ended up diverting the passenger in the sugarcane plantations of Kakira.
He reportedly and repeatedly raped her, robbing her of ten thousand shillings and chapati of five hundred shillings. He is still on remand, according to Mubi.
