In a distressing suspected murder case in Namayingo district, R/A.248760 a 28-year-old Uganda Peoples’ Defense Forces officer was allegedly killed and his body drowned in Lake Victoria.
Private Luke Kaponyang who was attached to Lolwe marine detach, Lolwe sub county, Namayingo district was allegedly killed on duty.
It is alleged that the suspects in his murder are four Kenyan fishermen whom the deceased and other PFU three officers intercepted at around 4:30am of May 15, 2024 as they carried out illegal fishing between Hama and Wayasi islands in Namayingo district.
The suspects were arrested and are detained at Imbitta police station in Kenya.
Four in number, the armed officers under the command of Lt. Acwamu Aggrey were on an operation in a marine boat.
In the process the fishermen from the neighbouring Kenya disappeared with private Kaponyang in their boat.
Security sources indicate that a case of suspected murder by drowning was reported at Namayingo CPS vide GEF. 12/2024 for investigations.
“Search for the missing officer was mounted and on May 24, 2024 at about 5:00pm, a lifeless body of private Kaponyang was recovered by fishermen on Lake Victoria waters at Singila island, Dolwe sub county Namayingo District. They handed over the body to the UPDF fisheries protection Unit (FPU) and informed us accordingly,” said Namayingo Deputy RDC, Trevor Solomon Baleke, Saturday May 25, 2024 afternoon.
Baleke added that the body was taken to Bombo military barracks for postmortem and further management.
It has been established that Private Kaponyang was a resident of Pallisa District.
