Ivan Makaye and his brother Gerald Magala are in cries after their area member of Parliament reportedly scammed them several millions of money.
These sold off their properties, including land, sugarcane plantations and small businesses they were operating when Hon Sanon Bwire Nadeba, the Bulamogi county lawmaker lured them that he would take them for juicy job opportunities in Canada.
Residents of Kalalu village, Butegele parish in Kasokwe subcounty, the two brothers claim they are currently on the run for their lives as their security remains at stake after they reported the challenging matter to police.
They allege that Hon Bwire received shs26 million with some on his Post Bank account while others were received in cash.
A receipt from Post Bank Iganga branch seen by Busoga Today, on serial number 328026, it clearly indicates that Gerald Magala deposited shs5m to account number 1030027005054 (Bwire Sanon Nadeba) on February 27, 2023, which potentially signifies that they boys paid the money to the National Resistance Movement (NRM) honourable member of Parliament.
“We have struggled with him since the beginning of last year. He has made endless promises that led us to us live without any coin in our pockets,” says Makaye.
“He promised to take us in September last year but till now, we don’t know the beauty of a visa. We have waited enough, and we now want our money back,” he added.
Makaye says they reporter the matter to Kaliro police but they were optimistic that the area police would not help them. They went further to Entebbe police station with the help of their elder brother, who residents in the capital city.
At Kaliro police, the duo didn’t record any statements, they only lodged in their petition on Reference number SD REF: 13/28/04/2024 while at Entebbe CPS they were on SD REF: 75/09/05/2024 and SD REF: 73/09/05/2024 over the case O/M/F/P.
They allege that Hon Bwire has a purported Labour company and that he reportedly uses his wife [only identified as Suzan] who allegedly works in state House to make calls to them.
“We developed suspicions and started asking him the name of his labour company. He instead said, “Are you a spy?” That is when we realised he is not serious with the issue of taking to Canada, but maybe he wanted to steal us,” said Makaye.
“Magala was asking him about, but he was abusing us. We tried to look at him at offices in Kampala but we have been just wasting our transport. We tried even to explain to him that banks are demanding us but nothing fruitful, he could say,” Makaye further stated.
It is said that the MP has been telling the young men that the travel is known by the government and the speaker of parliament.
“We once went to Kampala to his place so that we would spend there the whole week as we wait for the day of setting off to Canada, but he referred us to his office. He stayed there up to around 9 pm, and security sent us away. We had no money and decided to trek to Kireka to the lodge where we were sleeping. We just returned to Kaliro after getting a good Samaritan who helped us with transport,” he stated.
But Hon Bwire doesn’t refute the matter. He says he knows the boys and mediations are underway to settle the issues.
Reports indicate that he resorted to mediations with the two young men through the Bugiri deputy resident district Commissioner (RDC), Mr Kalikwani Makakanyara.
They (Bwire and RDC) invited the duo at a yet to be identified Hotel in Ntinda where Bwire vomited a tune of shs14m. Makaye said they were promised to be paid the balance and their passports in June.
