The Woman Member of Parliament for Jinja District, Peace Tibyaze, on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, raised a Matter of National Importance over the rising insecurity in Jinja District. She said several people have been killed and their bodies dumped in Mutai Swamp and nearby areas.
While addressing Parliament, Hon. Tibyaze said the killings have created fear among residents. She called for urgent government intervention to restore security in the affected areas.
The House was chaired by Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa. He directed the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the relevant security agencies to investigate the killings and bring those responsible to justice.
The matter came amid another suspected murder reported on Wednesday morning. Unknown assailants allegedly killed Kayima Yosia, a boda boda rider attached to Namulesa Rotary Stage in Jinja City, making him the fifth person to be killed in a similar manner and from the same spot in a period of one month.
According to preliminary reports, the deceased’s body was dumped in a sugar plantation. The scene is located at the border between Jinja City and Jinja District in the Mutai area.
Local leaders alerted the police after discovering the body. Officers from Buwenge Police Station responded to the scene with a Police K9 unit.
The scene was examined before the body was taken to Buwenge Health Centre IV Mortuary. A post-mortem examination will be conducted as investigations continue.
Residents have appealed for stronger security measures in the area. They also want swift investigations to end the wave of violent crime and restore public confidence.
