Police is Jinja have in custody a 26-year-old man identified as Geofrey Waiswa Ikumbi on allegations of defiled neighbour’s one-year-old baby girl.

The incident happened June 3, 2024 at the victim’s paresnts’ home in Nakakulwe B village, Butagaya sub county, Jinja district at around 3:00pm.

Police said that Waiswa has been spying on the movements of the victim’s parents until the fateful day when he grabbed the minor in his chest and reportedly defiled her several times from the home of the victim’s parents in absentia.

An eyewitness saw Waiswa doing the merciless act on his neighbor’s baby.

It is alleged that Waiswa could not not let the baby even when she yelled in pain.

“Someone who was passing via the home saw this horrific incident and immediately informed Butagaya police that did the needful by apprehending the culprit.,” said SP James Mubi the Kiira Region Police Spokesperson.

The second suspect was identified as Bulolin Otenge a 19-year-old night watchman at Kawomera restaurant located in Butangala A village, Buwege rural sub county, Jinja district.

“On May 31, 2024, it’s reported that the suspect tiptoed the victim up to the borehole where the minor had gone to fetch water in the same locality. The suspect slapped hard the victim on the cheeks as a way of instilling fear in her and allegedly defiled her in the nearby bush,” Mubi stated.

Mubi said the parents realized that their child had taken long to return home. They made follow-up only to get shocked by the actions of the suspect.

The suspect took off, but police tirelessly searched and arrested him with the support of the community members.

The accused person has been luring the minor with pancakes, posh, and beans obtained from his workplace.

Butagaya sub county, Buwenge, Kakira, and Buyengo Town Councils and Buwenge rural in Jinja district have recently been rocked with sexual violence against children.

But Mubi says that police is very determined to arrest and prosecute culprits and continue to sensitize the public with collaborative efforts from other stakeholders about the dangers of sexual gender based violence (SGBV) and violence against children (VAC).

Prosecution guided investigations ongoing to ensure police obtain conviction in court on both case files.
