Farmers in Bunyoro sub region have been tipped to tap into the immense opportunities presented by the the oil and gas sector.

Godwin Kasigwa Angalia, the Kibaale Resident District Commissioner gave the advice on Monday June 26, 2023 in an interview with Eye Media.

Angalia on Sunday supplied 600 berries of watermelon to MSL company at his farm in Buliisa.

Angalia also advised farmers to register their businesses on the National Supplier Database (NSD) in order to tap into the opportunities in the oil and gas sector.

The RDC reaffirmed government’s commitment towards supporting communities in the oil and gas area.

“Additionally, 95% of employees in oil and gas are Ugandans. Recently government handed over 105 houses, titles and agricultural equipment to PAPs who were displaced during the identification of land foe tge construction of the Tilenga project,” explained.

He said under Tilenga project alone, PAPs have undergone various livelihood improvement programs including skills training and acquisition of jobs.

“Our people have undergone training in how to engage in fruits tree farming, bee keeping and livestock rearing,” he said.

“I appeal to the local farmers to do the same so as to improve their standards of living through local trade with the oil and gas companies,” he said.

The Oil and Gas sector in Uganda is transitioning from exploration (and appraisal) to development and production, with a projected 20 billion US Dollar investment (for the up-stream and midstream investments), it is therefore important for different sector players to position themselves to benefit from the projects.
