A 45-year-old church leader is in police custody at Otuke Central Police Station for allege stealing of the money donated by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to complete the construction of Adyerakonya Church of Uganda.
The suspect has been identified as Patrick Okwir, a resident of Adyerakonya village, Adyerakonya parish, Adwari Sub-County in Otuke District and member of the church construction committee.
This follows a complaint registered at Adwari Police on 4th August 2023 by Moses Opio 38-years-old church leader.
President Museveni on May 18, 2023 respended to the church request and gave them shs 20 million for the completion of the church.
But it is alleged that Patrick diverted shs 12.5 million and spent only the remaining 7.5m on the church construction.
Patrick Jimmy Okema, the North Kyoga Regional Police Spokesperson confirmed the arrest.
The Eye Media established Tuesday evening that the suspected coughed Shs 10 million Tuesday after spending three days in cells.
