The Uganda Police is asking any person with information that can lead to the arrest of Dr. Eron Lawrence to provide it so that he is apprehended to face his charges.

Police Spokesperson, Fred Enanga says the force is in serious pursuit of the Kyambogo University Deputy Vice Chancellor.

Yesterday the Eye Media quotted the police informing the public about Dr. Eron’s disappearance and jumping of Police Bond granted him last year.

Dr Eron allegedly defiled a visually impaired student of St Apollo Kaggwa SS located in Nakisunga in Mukono District.

Dr. Eron and the students were returning from a conference in Nairobi, Kenya.

It was alleged that the visually impaired student was a beneficiary of a programme funded by Royal Dutch Visio, an organisation that supports children with visual impairments in secondary schools in many parts of the country.

The organisation partners with Kyambogo University to implement its programmes.

Sources revealed that last year, on October 7, the victim together with other students went for the conference in Nairobi.

The team was led by Dr Eron, a senior staff in the Faculty of Special Needs and Rehabilitation at Kyambogo University.

After the conference on October 14, the students returned to Uganda late in the night and the accused university staff was entrusted by the team to drop some of them to their homes using his vehicle.

“One girl woke up the following morning and found that she had been penetrated. So, she rushed to school and reported the matter to the administration. The school telephoned the parents of the girl who stay in Arua (West Nile),”the source explained.

On October 23, the student in the company of her parents reported the matter to Jinja Road Police Station. The accused university staff was arrested and detained at Jinja Road Police Station until October 27 when he was granted police bond.

Dr Eron has since vanished after receiving the Police bond.

“Dr. Eron Lawrence, a 56-year-old senior lecturer at Kyambogo University and Dean of the Faculty of Special Needs and Rehabilitation, accused of defiling a 16-year-old girl, is wanted by the police after he absconded police bond on December 14, 2023,” Enanga announced.

In a statement issued to the media last year, the university administration said a committee had been instituted to investigate the allegations.

“The attention of Kyambogo university management has been drawn to reports from some sections of the media indicating that a member of our staff has been involved in unfortunate sex scandals,” the statement read.

Management pledged to take all the necessary actions to address “this form of gross misconduct or criminal behaviour per the university’s internal disciplinary rules.”

However, the university has remained silent on the proceedings of the committee.

The Eye Media has however received reports indicating that it is not the first time this particular Dr Eron Lawrence is engaging in such acts of defilement. We are working on that story too.
