Leaders of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), youth, and ordinary residents in Jinja City have intensified mobilization efforts for the upcoming birthday run of Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who heads the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) and is also the commander of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).
The run is scheduled for the 26th of this month.
During a press briefing held in Jinja City to outline preparations, the NRM Administrative Secretary for Jinja City, Asuman Kambo, called on the public to actively participate in the run, which aims at raising funds to support vulnerable people in the community.
Kambo revealed that he has already purchased running kits worth 3 million Ugandan shillings for residents in Jinja and is mobilizing more people to buy additional kits in support of the cause.
He explained that participants in Jinja will run around the city to accommodate those unable to travel to Kololo Ceremonial Grounds. Runners are expected to gather at St Jude Playground at 6:00 a.m.
Kambo added that Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba will be the chief guest, and once the run is flagged off at Kololo, participants in Jinja will simultaneously begin their run.
Other NRM members, PLU leaders, and youth commended Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba for organizing the run and extending it to Jinja, pledging continued support through purchasing kits and mobilizing wider participation.
Participants have already started training and warming up in preparation for the run set to take place this Sunday.
