KAMPALA – President Yoweri Museveni has suspended senior officials in the Ministry of Works and Transport as investigations intensify into alleged irregularities surrounding the Kampala–Mpigi Expressway project.
The President directed that the affected officials step aside to allow investigators to carry out their work without interference. The move is part of the government’s wider campaign against corruption and mismanagement in major public infrastructure projects.
The Kampala–Mpigi Expressway is one of Uganda’s flagship road projects aimed at easing congestion along the busy Kampala–Masaka highway while improving regional trade.
The suspension has attracted mixed reactions, with some Ugandans welcoming the President’s decision as a sign that public officials must be held accountable, while others have called for transparent investigations and prosecution where evidence of wrongdoing exists.
Observers say the outcome of the investigations could shape future oversight of government-funded infrastructure projects worth billions of shillings.
Eye Media Uganda will continue following the investigations and bring you verified developments.
