Controversial Ugandan socialite Bad Black has set social media buzzing after announcing that she intends to contest for the Kampala Woman Member of Parliament seat in the 2031 general elections.
Speaking during a recent media interview, the outspoken celebrity said she believes she has what it takes to represent Kampala’s women, arguing that she understands the struggles of ordinary Ugandans better than many of the leaders who have previously held the office.
“I am aiming to become Woman MP for Kampala, and I believe I will be voted for. I understand the people’s problems and I am sure they will support me,” she said.
Bad Black also criticised former occupants of the seat, claiming they had done little to improve the lives of the people who elected them.
However, her political ambitions have ignited a different conversation online, with many Ugandans questioning whether she meets the academic qualifications required to contest for Parliament.
On social media, some users have claimed that Bad Black did not complete the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE). Eye Media has not independently verified those claims, and Bad Black has not publicly commented on the speculation surrounding her academic qualifications.
Under Uganda’s electoral laws, candidates seeking election to Parliament are generally required to possess an Advanced Level (UACE) certificate or an equivalent qualification recognised by the relevant authorities.
The debate has left many wondering whether the socialite will return to school before the 2031 elections if she intends to pursue her political ambitions.
Others, however, argue that with several years still remaining before the next general elections, Bad Black has enough time to fulfil any legal requirements should she decide to mount a serious campaign.
Her announcement has drawn mixed reactions, with supporters praising her confidence and willingness to enter public service, while critics question whether celebrity status alone is enough to win public office.
Whether her declaration marks the beginning of a genuine political journey or simply adds another chapter to her colourful public life remains to be seen. For now, one thing is certain—Bad Black has once again succeeded in dominating the public conversation.
