KAMPALA – A cryptic social media post by Kasambya County Member of Parliament Daudi Kabanda has ignited widespread speculation over the fate of Joseph Sabiti, the former Press Secretary to ex-Speaker Anita Annet Among, amid reports of ongoing security operations targeting some former public officials.
The controversy began after social media influencer Dickens Okello sought to dismiss claims that Sabiti was among individuals reportedly being pursued by security agencies.
In a post on X, Okello wrote:
“Former AAA’s Principal Press Secretary, Joseph Sabiti isn’t among them. I had breakfast with him earlier. He’s a free man.”
However, Kabanda quickly quoted the post with a brief but chilling response that has since gone viral.
“He will also be picked in another round.”
The statement immediately sparked intense debate across social media platforms, with many users interpreting it as a suggestion that Sabiti could be arrested in the coming days. Others questioned whether the legislator was privy to information not yet in the public domain or was merely expressing a personal opinion.
- Despite the growing speculation, there has been no official communication from any security agency confirming that Joseph Sabiti has been arrested, is under investigation, or is being sought by authorities.
Sabiti had also not publicly responded to Kabanda’s remarks by the time of publication.
The online exchange comes at a time of heightened public interest following recent arrests and investigations involving several individuals formerly associated with government institutions, developments that have fueled anxiety and speculation across the country.
Political observers say comments by influential leaders on social media often shape public perception and can trigger widespread speculation, especially when they concern ongoing security matters.
Eye Media Uganda has not independently verified the claims made in the social media posts. Readers are advised to treat the information with caution until official communication is issued by the relevant authorities.
