KAMPALA – Members of the Teso Parliamentary Group have appealed to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to intervene in the continued detention of former Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, citing concerns over her deteriorating health and prolonged confinement.
The legislators made the appeal on Friday, arguing that Among requires specialised medical attention and urging the President to use his influence to ensure that her health is safeguarded.
The MPs expressed concern that the former Speaker’s continued confinement could further worsen her condition, saying humanitarian considerations should be taken into account.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Samuel Ediau, the MP for Amuria County, said the appeal was motivated by concern for Among’s well-being and the need for her to access appropriate medical treatment.
The legislators urged the President to consider intervening to facilitate specialised treatment while legal processes continue.
The appeal comes amid ongoing legal proceedings involving the former Speaker, whose detention has continued to attract public and political attention.
It remains unclear whether the Presidency will respond to the request from the Teso Parliamentary Group.
