KAMPALA – The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) Parliamentary Caucus will convene on Sunday, July 5, 2026, to elect a new Executive Committee and fill two vacant positions in the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).
According to a notice dated July 3, 2026, issued by Government Chief Whip and Chairperson of the NRM Parliamentary Caucus, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero, the meeting will take place at 11:00 a.m. in the Conference Hall at the Office of the President.
The notice, addressed to all NRM Members of Parliament, states that the meeting has been called to conduct two key elections.
The first agenda item is the election of the NRM Parliamentary Caucus Executive Committee, which oversees the affairs and coordination of the ruling party’s legislators in Parliament.
The caucus will also hold a by-election to fill two vacant NRM slots in the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).
Dr. Aceng urged all NRM legislators to attend the meeting in person, while the Chairperson of the NRM Electoral Commission has been requested to make the necessary preparations to oversee the electoral process.
The notice was copied to President Yoweri Museveni, who is also the National Chairperson of the NRM, the Vice President, the Prime Minister and Leader of Government Business, the NRM Secretary General, the Chairperson of the NRM Electoral Commission, and the Director of the Office of the Leader of Government Business.
The outcome of Sunday’s meeting is expected to shape the leadership of the NRM Parliamentary Caucus and determine the party’s representatives for the vacant EALA positions.
