BUSOGA: The Minister for Local Government, Hon. Balaam Barugahara Atenyi, has ordered the immediate transfer of Kaliro District Principal Human Resource Officer and Secretary to the District Service Commission, Betty Baluka, over allegations of soliciting money from job seekers.
The minister issued the directive during his ongoing tour of the Busoga Sub-region to assess service delivery in local governments.
By press time, Jude Ngiira, the Acting Town Clerk of Namwiwa Town Council, had taken over office with immediate effect.
Baluka is the wife of the Kaliro Principal Assistant Secretary (PAS) and a sister-in-law to Kaliro District LC5 Chairperson Elijah Kagoda Dhikusooka.
In a related development, Minister Balaam directed Jinja District Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Lillian Nakamatte to step aside pending investigations into allegations of corruption and mismanagement of funds.
The directive was issued during the third sitting of the Jinja District Council chaired by Speaker Simon Kibombo.
Kibombo accused the district leadership of frustrating service delivery, claiming that the district had been “hijacked” by LC5 Chairperson Moses Batwala.
Balaam is currently traversing the Busoga region to monitor the implementation of government programmes and assess service delivery in local government units.
The minister is expected to conclude his regional tour on Friday with a meeting bringing together LC5 chairpersons, Resident District Commissioners (RDCs) and Chief Administrative Officers (CAOs) at the Civil Service College in Jinja.
The latest developments signal a growing crackdown on alleged corruption and administrative irregularities in local governments across the region.
