KAMPALA: Parliament has moved to replace its Director of Communications, Chris Obore, and Director of Human Resource Management, Daniel Adilo, as investigations into an alleged financial scandal continue.
Sources within Parliament say Assistant Director of Communications Grace Gidudu has assumed the communications docket in an acting capacity as the Parliamentary Commission prepares to formally declare the position vacant.
At the same time, Benson Masereka Oniz has been confirmed as the substantive Director of Human Resource Management.
Oniz previously served as Director of the Commission Secretariat before leaving the position in July 2021.
The changes come as several senior Parliament officials face allegations of embezzlement and money laundering.
Obore and Adilo are among seven officials currently being investigated over the alleged misuse of funds.
Others under scrutiny are Leonard Okema, the Executive Secretary in the Office of the Speaker; Rajab Kaaya Ssemalulu, a Principal Research Officer; Emmanuel Emuron, a Principal Protocol Officer; Vincent Otebata, a Capacity Development Officer; and Murebe Methods, the Chief Executive Officer of the Uganda Parliamentary Cooperative Savings and Credit Society (SACCO).
The latest developments point to a major restructuring within Parliament as authorities intensify investigations into the alleged financial impropriety.
