Police in Iganga District have arrested a 19-year-old security guard over the fatal shooting of a bodaboda rider following an altercation at a supermarket in Nakigo Sub-county.
The suspect has been identified as Kirya Edrine Shakul, an employee of Centurion Security Company and a resident of Kiyunga Village, Kisozi Sub-county in Kamuli District.
The deceased is Mulwana Nuraini, aged about 20 years.
According to preliminary police findings, the incident occurred at around 11:00 pm on July 10, 2026, in Bugabwe Village, Nakigo Sub-county, Iganga District.
Police say Mulwana had visited a supermarket where Kirya was deployed as a security guard. The guard reportedly asked him to leave the premises, but the request was ignored.
A verbal confrontation then ensued between the two, prompting the security guard to allegedly fire a single shot that struck Mulwana in the lower jaw, killing him instantly.
A case of murder by shooting has since been registered at Iganga Central Police Station.
A team of detectives led by the Officer in Charge of the Criminal Investigations Department (OC CID) visited and documented the crime scene.
The body of the deceased was taken to Iganga Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Police also recovered the suspected murder weapon, identified as a Legacy Sports Reno NV 12 CA/MAGNUM (3″) shotgun, together with three live rounds of ammunition. One spent cartridge casing was also recovered from the scene.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the shooting are ongoing.
