Police in Nateete are holding a man accused of disguising himself as a female domestic worker and stealing money from his employers in Kampala.
The suspect has been identified as Kayaga Rayan, who allegedly presented himself as Namirembe Rukia while seeking employment as a housemaid.
According to preliminary police investigations, the suspect allegedly disguised himself as a woman to secure domestic jobs with the intention of stealing from employers.
During interrogation, police say the suspect admitted to posing as a female domestic worker as part of his scheme to gain access to homes and steal valuables.
The suspect was most recently employed in Mutundwe, Rubaga Division, where he is accused of stealing UGX 1.7 million from his employers.
He was arrested at a church in Mutundwe after security personnel conducted a routine security check before the start of a church service.
Following his arrest, his employers reportedly discovered that Shs1.7 million was missing from their residence and immediately reported the matter to police.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue and will be arraigned in court upon completion of inquiries.
Police have urged members of the public to exercise caution when recruiting domestic workers and other household employees.
The Uganda Police Force advised employers to verify the identities, backgrounds and references of prospective employees and to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
