Police in Kampala are investigating the fatal stabbing of a male hawker at BMK Plaza in Kampala’s Central Business District.
The incident occurred on July 10, 2026, at around 4:30 p.m. on the ground floor of the commercial building.
According to preliminary police findings, a confrontation broke out after a security guard ordered the hawker to leave the premises.
The disagreement reportedly escalated into violence, and the security guard allegedly stabbed the hawker in the chest.
The victim collapsed and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police have identified the suspect as Ian Mugisha, a security guard attached to Security 2000. He was immediately arrested following the incident.
The suspected murder weapon was recovered by investigators.
The identity of the deceased had not yet been established by Tuesday, and his body was taken to the KCCA City Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigyire said detectives have launched investigations to establish the full circumstances that led to the deadly confrontation.
Police say further updates will be provided as investigations progress.
