A residency dispute has erupted in Mbulamuti Town Council, Kamuli District, after a man who was previously certified as a resident of the area was allegedly declared a non-resident shortly after picking nomination forms to contest for the LC1 chairmanship.
Mr. Nantatya Fred says he was issued with a recommendation letter on July 8, 2025, by the LC1 Chairperson of Mbulamuti Town Cell, Faluku Baligoloza, confirming that he was a resident of the area.
However, Nantatya alleges that on July 13, 2026, after expressing interest in contesting for the LC1 chairmanship against Baligoloza, the same chairperson informed him that he was no longer considered a resident of Mbulamuti Town Cell and was therefore ineligible to contest.
The development has sparked concern and debate among residents, with some questioning how a person who has continuously lived in an area can suddenly be declared a non-resident.
Nantatya claims the decision is unfair and is intended to block him from challenging the incumbent chairman in the ongoing village elections.
Copies of documents seen by Eye Media indicate that Nantatya had previously been recommended by the LC1 office as a resident of the area.
Residents are now calling on electoral authorities to intervene and establish the facts surrounding the dispute to ensure fairness and transparency in the electoral process.
Efforts to obtain a comment from Faluku Baligoloza regarding the allegations were unsuccessful by press time.
The dispute comes amid heightened political activity across the country as villages elect their new LC1 leaders, with the Electoral Commission repeatedly calling on stakeholders to ensure that the elections are conducted in a free, fair and transparent manner.
It remains unclear whether Nantatya will petition electoral authorities to challenge the decision as the election process continues.
