Four Arrested As Police Probe Alleged Arson Attack On LC I Chairperson’s Home In Oyam

Four people have been arrested in Oyam District to assist police with investigations into an alleged arson attack that destroyed four grass-thatched houses belonging to an LC I chairperson.
The incident occurred at around 12:34 a.m. on Friday, July 24, 2026, at the home of Edward Odoch, 64, the LC I chairperson of Ader Village in Ader Parish, Otwal Sub-county.
According to police, unknown persons allegedly set the houses on fire while the family was asleep, leaving them homeless. Although no one was injured, all household property, including food, bedding, clothing and other personal belongings, was reduced to ashes.
Odoch said he believes the attack could be linked to his role in the arrest of Peter Okaka, who had earlier been accused of cattle theft. He added that he had been receiving threats from some of Okaka’s associates.
“I have lost the beddings, food items, clothing and all the important belongings that were in the house. I thank God that all my family members survived without injuries,” Odoch said.
Police have since arrested four suspects identified as Peter Okaka, Ambrose Ojok, Denis Obura and Bonny Aremo, all residents of the same area.
North Kyoga Regional Police Spokesperson SP Patrick Jimmy Okema confirmed the arrests and said investigations into the incident are ongoing.
He said the scene was examined by the Oyam District Police Commander, SP Ayikoyo Sydney, together with the Scene of Crime Officer, detectives and uniformed officers.
According to Okema, investigators recovered several exhibits from the scene, including a matchbox and a pair of sandals believed to be linked to one of the suspects. The exhibits have been submitted for forensic examination as police continue gathering evidence.
Police have urged members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with investigators as efforts continue to establish the motive behind the suspected arson attack.
