The Uganda Police Force has announced nationwide traffic restrictions ahead of the National Cleaning Day scheduled for Saturday, July 25, 2026, urging all Ugandans to actively participate in the exercise aimed at promoting sanitation and preventing disease outbreaks.

In a press statement issued on Friday, Police said the cleaning exercise will run from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. across the country as part of the Government’s efforts to improve public health and maintain a cleaner environment.

Police called upon citizens, motorists, traders, institutions and community leaders to fully comply with the directive by taking part in cleaning activities within their respective localities.

During the three-hour exercise, all vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles and vessels will not be allowed on roads and water bodies except in emergency situations. Traffic movement will therefore be restricted nationwide until 10:00 a.m.

Members of the public have also been encouraged to remain within their communities during the exercise and resume their normal activities after 10:00 a.m.

However, Police clarified that emergency services, including ambulances and patients travelling for scheduled medical treatment, will be exempted from the restrictions. Patients have been advised to carry relevant medical documents, while health workers should have their identification documents.

Security vehicles on official duty and cross-border vehicular traffic along major transport corridors will also be allowed to operate.

Police further appealed to the public to cooperate with security personnel deployed during the exercise and avoid confrontations.

“In case of any concern, please seek guidance from the nearest police officer or supervisor on duty,” the statement reads.

The National Cleaning Day is part of the Government’s broader campaign to improve environmental sanitation, enhance public health and reduce diseases associated with poor hygiene.
