Residents of Bamutakude Village in Mukono District have heaped praise on their newly elected LC I Chairperson, Solomon Serwanjja, following his swift efforts to secure a commitment for safe and clean water just days after assuming office.

Serwanjja, a veteran journalist who was elected during the July 28, 2026 Local Council I elections, has already attracted support from Salam Charity to address one of the village’s long-standing challenges—access to clean water.

The development has sparked excitement among residents, with many describing the new village chairman as a results-oriented leader.

“Our new LC I chairman is better than some Members of Parliament. He has been in office for only a few days, yet we are already seeing results. Some leaders spend five years making promises without delivering anything,” said Sarah Nansubuga, a resident of Bamutakude.

Another resident, John Ssekimpi, said the chairman had restored hope among the people.

“We elected him because we believed he would work for us, and he has not disappointed. Instead of making endless speeches, he has gone out to look for partners who can improve our lives. This is the leadership we have been yearning for,” he said.

Grace Namubiru, another resident, said the clean water initiative would save women and children from trekking long distances in search of safe water.

“We are grateful that our chairman has remembered one of our biggest challenges. Clean water means better health for our families. We pray that this project is implemented as soon as possible,” she said.

The commitment follows a meeting between Serwanjja and Salam TV and Salam Charity Managing Director Hajji Kaliisa, where the two discussed development opportunities under the Smart Village Initiative, a programme aimed at improving livelihoods through community-driven interventions.

Speaking after the meeting, Serwanjja said his leadership would focus on practical solutions rather than empty promises.

“I made a commitment to serve the people of Bamutakude with dedication and honesty. This partnership is only the beginning. We shall continue mobilising development partners to improve access to essential services and transform our village,” he said.

Residents say the water project has renewed confidence in the village leadership and expressed optimism that more development initiatives will follow in the coming months.

The clean water intervention is expected to benefit hundreds of households once implemented, easing a burden that residents have endured for years.
