The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Kabale District, Rtd. Maj. Godfrey Katamba, has officially launched the third Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sports Tournament at Kabale Main Stadium in Kabale Municipality.
The tournament was flagged off on the morning of August 2, 2026, attracting participants and spectators from across the Kigezi Sub-region.
According to Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson SP Nelson Tumushime, the launch brought together representatives from all six districts in the region, members of sister security agencies, the business community, local leaders and residents.
Tumushime said the opening procession was led by the Kigezi Regional Police Commander, SSP Godfrey Ninsiima. The march started from Kabale Central Police Station and proceeded through Skyline Roundabout, Voice of Kigezi and Kigongi Suburb before culminating at Kabale Main Stadium.
He said the annual sports tournament is intended to strengthen community policing by promoting public participation, teamwork and positive engagement between the police and the communities they serve.
The Inspector General of Police Sports Tournament is one of the Uganda Police Force’s community engagement initiatives aimed at fostering closer relations with the public while encouraging physical fitness and unity among participants.
