Police in Namutumba District are hunting for a 68-year-old man accused of killing his elder brother following a long-standing land dispute.

The suspect has been identified as Nalugoda George, 68, a resident of Namuwondo A Village, Ituba Parish, Namutumba Sub-county. The deceased is Kakaire Patrick George, 78, who was also the suspect’s brother and a resident of the same village.

According to Busoga East Regional Police Spokesperson ASP Kasadha Micheal, the incident occurred on the evening of August 1, 2026, after the suspect was served with a police summons requiring him to report to Namutumba Police Station on August 3 to record a statement over allegations of malicious damage to property and criminal trespass reported by the deceased.

Police say the summons was delivered by the area’s Vice Chairperson. Upon receiving it, Nalugoda allegedly stormed his brother’s home, tore up the summons and assaulted him.

Kakaire reportedly fell from the seat he was sitting on and lost consciousness, while the suspect fled the scene.

First responders rushed the victim into his house, where he was pronounced dead. The matter was later reported to police.

A team of detectives led by the District CID Officer visited and documented the scene. A postmortem examination was conducted at Iganga Hospital before the body was released to relatives for burial.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the fatal assault stemmed from a long-running dispute over land inherited from the brothers’ late father, Yosamu Nalugoda.

Police have appealed to members of the public with information about the suspect’s whereabouts to report to the nearest police station.

The force has also urged families to resolve land disputes through local leaders and courts of law instead of resorting to violence.
