The Prime Minister of Luuka Chiefdom, Owek. Daudi Lwiigo Isabirye, has officially resigned from office after serving as head of the chiefdom’s cabinet for 18 years.
Lwiigo announced his resignation on Monday while addressing journalists at his office, saying he had formally written to the Chief of Luuka Chiefdom, His Royal Highness Willington Nabwana, requesting to step down.
According to Lwiigo, he submitted his resignation letter on July 3, 2026, and the royal chief accepted his request on July 27, 2026, paving the way for his official departure from office.
“I wrote a letter to His Royal Highness the Tabingwa requesting to leave the office of the Prime Minister on July 3, 2026. He responded on July 27, 2026, accepting my request,” Lwiigo said.
He expressed gratitude to HRH Willington Nabwana for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the chiefdom’s cabinet since 2008.
“I would like to thank His Royal Highness Willington Nabwana for giving me the opportunity to serve my people as Prime Minister. It has been an honour to serve the chiefdom,” he said.
Despite stepping down, Lwiigo pledged to remain available to serve Luuka Chiefdom whenever called upon by the royal chief.
He also thanked the people of Luuka for their support throughout his tenure, saying their cooperation enabled him to execute his responsibilities successfully.
Luuka Chiefdom is one of the 11 traditional chiefdoms that constitute the Busoga Kingdom. Each chiefdom is headed by a hereditary chief, commonly known as a Prince, and is supported by a cabinet headed by a Prime Minister.
Lwiigo’s resignation brings to an end nearly two decades at the helm of Luuka Chiefdom’s executive leadership. The chiefdom is expected to announce arrangements for appointing his successor.
