Police in Iganga District are investigating a tragic incident in which a man allegedly butchered his wife and their two-year-old son before stabbing himself to death following a domestic dispute over land ownership.
The incident occurred on August 2, 2026, at around 8:45 a.m. in Namusisi Village, Nawandala Sub-county, Iganga District.
The deceased have been identified as Nabirye Salama, 26, and her two-year-old son, Kisira Mutwalib. The suspected attacker, Waako Jamiru Makoma, also died after allegedly inflicting fatal stab wounds on himself.
According to the Busoga East Regional Police Spokesperson, ASP Kasadha Micheal, preliminary investigations indicate that the couple developed a misunderstanding over a piece of land that Nabirye had reportedly purchased and registered in the name of their son without her husband’s knowledge.
Police say Waako demanded to see the land sale agreement, triggering a heated argument that turned violent. It is further alleged that the couple locked themselves inside their house during the altercation.
Investigators believe Waako allegedly stabbed his wife and their son with a knife before turning the weapon on himself.
A team of detectives led by the District Police Commander (DPC) visited and documented the scene. A blood-stained knife believed to have been used in the attack was recovered as evidence.
The bodies were conveyed to Iganga Hospital Mortuary for postmortem examination as investigations continue.
Police have urged members of the public to resolve domestic and family disputes amicably through elders, local leaders and courts of law, and to seek help before situations escalate into violence.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
