The Minister of Internal Affairs, Prof. Ephraim Kamuntu, on Tuesday made his maiden official visit to the Uganda Police Force Headquarters in Naguru, where he pledged government support towards strengthening the Force’s capacity to combat crime and enhance public safety.

Prof. Kamuntu was received by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Abas Byakagaba, who led him on a guided tour of key operational and administrative facilities at the headquarters.

During the visit, the Minister toured the Directorate of ICT, the Field Force Unit (FFU), the Directorate of Forensic Services, the ICT National Command and Control Centre, the Counter-Terrorism Directorate, and the newly constructed accommodation blocks at Naguru.

He later addressed the Uganda Police Force’s top management, including Directors, Heads of Departments, Commanders of Specialized Units, and the Kampala Metropolitan Police Command.

Expressing satisfaction with what he had seen, Prof. Kamuntu commended the Uganda Police Force for its efforts in maintaining law and order and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting its operations.

“We came, we saw, and we have appreciated. I am pleased with what I have seen in the Uganda Police Force. If the Force is well-equipped, well-trained, and adequately facilitated, it can achieve the security aspirations of this country,” the Minister said.

He pledged to support initiatives aimed at strengthening crime prevention, improving the welfare of police personnel, and enhancing career development through timely promotions.

Inspector General of Police Abas Byakagaba thanked the Minister for making time to visit the Police Headquarters and briefed him on the current status of the Uganda Police Force. The IGP highlighted the Force’s strategic priorities, key operational challenges, and the measures being implemented to improve service delivery and enhance national security.

The maiden visit forms part of Prof. Kamuntu’s familiarization tour of institutions under the Ministry of Internal Affairs as he settles into his new role, underscoring the government’s commitment to supporting security agencies in fulfilling their constitutional mandate.
