Police have arrested two suspects and recovered an AK-47 rifle as investigations into the violent aggravated robbery at Rafiki Gardens in Matugga continue.

The suspects, identified as Michael Mutyaba and Paul Bazalanga, were arrested in separate intelligence-led operations following the July 14, 2026 robbery at Rafiki Gardens in Kiti A Cell, Nangabo Sub-county, Wakiso District.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Public Relations Officer ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the operations resulted in the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, two loaded magazines containing 58 rounds of ammunition, and two camouflage uniforms believed to have been used during the commission of the crime.

Police said the robbery involved armed men who attacked a beer delivery truck, assaulted the driver, shot the manager of Rafiki Gardens, and robbed customers of their mobile phones and other valuables before fleeing the scene.

The latest arrests and recovery are being viewed as a major breakthrough in the investigation. However, police say efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining members of the criminal gang and recover additional exhibits connected to the case.

The two suspects remain in police custody and will be arraigned before court on charges of aggravated robbery and other related offences once investigations are complete.

Police have also commended members of the public for providing information that has aided the investigation and urged anyone with additional information about the case to report to the nearest police station.
