Police in Mityana District have arrested three suspects in connection with aggravated robbery after recovering military uniforms and other suspected stolen property from one of the suspects.

According to Wamala Regional Police spokesperson SSP Racheal Kigozi, the prime suspect, Nzabashaija Wilberforce, 26, a resident of Kiriri in Makindye Division, Kampala, travelled to his mother’s home in Kiwoya Bweza Village, Kakindu Sub-county, on August 1, 2026, carrying luggage whose contents later raised suspicion.

Police say that during the night of August 1 and 2, Wilberforce, dressed in military uniform and armed with a knife, pliers and a screwdriver, teamed up with his brother, Kusasira Fredrick, and embarked on a robbery spree.

The duo allegedly broke into the home of Ms. Namatta and stole a bicycle before proceeding to the homes of Ms. Ntegeyo and Ms. Nakiwala Teopista, where they reportedly threatened the occupants while demanding money.

Residents responded swiftly to the victims’ alarm, apprehending Wilberforce and recovering a pair of military uniforms, a knife, pliers and a screwdriver. The incident was reported to Kakindu Police Station by Mr. Kirudde Sabiiti, the LC I Chairperson of Kiwoya Bweza Village.

Police later arrested Wilberforce’s brother, Kusasira Fredrick, as well as their mother, who is accused of obstructing police officers during the operation.

During interrogation by detectives from Mityana Police and the Regional Flying Squad Unit, Wilberforce reportedly confessed to breaking into the home of a serving UPDF officer in Kiriri, Makindye Division, in mid-July 2026, where he allegedly stole two pairs of military uniforms, a sweater, a bag and a three-inch mattress.

Police say the suspect admitted he intended to use the military attire to facilitate criminal activities, including robberies and setting up illegal roadblocks. Investigators further allege that after an earlier robbery attempt in Kampala yielded no money, he relocated to Mityana to continue his criminal activities.

Police are continuing efforts to recover the remaining stolen military items believed to be in the suspect’s possession.

Wamala Regional Police have commended residents of Kiwoya Bweza Village for their vigilance and restraint in handing the suspects over to police instead of resorting to mob justice.

Investigations are ongoing, and the case file will be submitted to the Resident State Attorney in Mityana for legal guidance and sanction of appropriate charges against the three suspects.
