A fire on Thursday, August 6, 2026, gutted a girls’ dormitory at Midland Junior School in Bulindo Village, Kira Municipality, Wakiso District, reducing property worth millions of shillings to ashes, although no injuries or fatalities were reported.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police, the fire broke out at about 2:00 p.m. from an unknown source in the girls’ dormitory accommodating Primary Six and Primary Seven pupils.
The blaze destroyed pupils’ personal belongings, including beds, mattresses, clothing and other property before firefighters managed to bring it under control.
Police officers, together with the Fire Prevention and Rescue Services, responded swiftly to the scene and successfully contained the fire, preventing it from spreading to other buildings within the school.
Scene of Crime Officers documented the scene and recorded statements from witnesses as investigations into the cause of the fire commenced.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Public Relations Officer ASP Luke Owoyesigyire said investigations are ongoing to establish the exact cause of the outbreak.
He added that police will provide further updates as more information becomes available.
