Police have arrested four suspected members of an armed robbery gang believed to be behind a series of violent attacks in Entebbe, Kampala Metropolitan, Eastern Uganda and the Albertine region following intelligence-led operations coordinated between Kampala Metropolitan South and Jinja City Police.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police South, the suspects are linked to two aggravated robberies committed on Monday, June 1, 2026 and Monday, August 3, 2026 in Entebbe Police Division.

The first robbery occurred at Buyinja Trading Centre in Nkumba Ward, Katabi Town Council, Wakiso District, where three armed men, one reportedly dressed in military attire, attacked a sales manager of a distribution company. The assailants allegedly fired two shots into the air, assaulted the victim and stole approximately UGX 24 million before fleeing on a motorcycle.

Crime scene investigators recovered two spent cartridges, which forensic examinations later linked to a firearm believed to have been used in five previous robberies within Kampala Metropolitan and four others outside the region.

The second incident occurred on Monday, August 3, 2026, when the same group allegedly attacked a shop in Kasenyi, Bendegere Village, during the offloading of goods from a truck. Police said the suspects fired one shot, threatened the cashier with a knife, stole cash and escaped on a motorcycle.

Investigations enabled detectives to identify and trace the motorcycle used in the robberies. A joint operation led by the Regional Police Commander (RPC) Kampala Metropolitan South and the District Police Commander (DPC) Jinja City intercepted the suspects in Ngogwe, Buikwe District as they attempted to return to Kampala.

Police said the suspects confessed to both robberies and admitted involvement in several other violent robberies across Kampala Metropolitan, Eastern Uganda and the Albertine region.

The suspects also led investigators to Ngando Village in Mukono District, where officers recovered a rifle loaded with 15 rounds of live ammunition.

The four suspects remain in police custody pending scene reconstruction and subsequent court proceedings, while investigations continue to identify and arrest additional suspects believed to be part of the criminal network.

Kampala Metropolitan Police South reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling violent criminal gangs through intelligence-led operations and close inter-agency collaboration.

Police have urged members of the public to remain vigilant, promptly report suspicious persons or activities, and continue supporting law enforcement agencies with timely information to help prevent and combat crime.
