Police in Rukungiri District have arrested Moses Owoyesire in connection with the alleged murder of 30-year-old Tumushabe Grace in Kanyankyende Village, Bugangari Parish, Bugangari Sub-county.
Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson SP Nelson Tumushime confirmed the arrest, saying Owoyesire is currently detained at Rukungiri Central Police Station as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death continue.
Police said officers responded to the scene following the incident and recovered the body, which was subsequently transported to Rwakabengo Health Centre III mortuary for postmortem examination.
The exact circumstances surrounding Tumushabe’s death and the possible motive were not immediately disclosed.
Tumushime thanked members of the public for providing information that reportedly helped police arrest the suspect.
Police also appealed to residents to remain calm and allow investigations to proceed rather than taking the law into their own hands.
“We urge the public to remain calm and not to take the law into their own hands,” police said.
Police extended condolences to the family and friends of the deceased as investigations into the case continue.
Owoyesire remains a suspect, and the allegations against him are yet to be determined by a court of law.
