The Special Forces Command (SFC) on Friday, August 7, 2026, honoured 67 officers and men for their dedicated and selfless service to the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) as they prepare to retire from active military service.
The retirees were recognised for their distinguished careers and contribution to the UPDF, including service in military operations, VVIP protection, peace support missions and other strategic assignments.
The group comprised four Captains, 17 Lieutenants, 23 Warrant Officers, nine Staff Sergeants, 12 Sergeants and two Corporals.
Other senior officers who attended the function are expected to receive their retirement certificates during the official UPDF retirement ceremony scheduled for Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at the UPDF Joint Headquarters in Mbuya.
Reading the retirement citations, SFC Director of Human Resource Management Col. Night Ikiriza commended the retirees for their courage, discipline, loyalty and selfless commitment to defending Uganda throughout their military careers.
She also recognised the contribution of their spouses and families, saying their sacrifices and continued support played an important role in enabling the soldiers to successfully execute their duties.
Representing the Commander of the SFC, Chief of Staff Brig. Gen. John Mango Baraza congratulated the retirees for their contribution to national security.
“Many of you have endured challenges in the course of duty, including long periods away from your families, working in risky environments and accepting sacrifices without hesitation,” Brig. Gen. Baraza said.
He encouraged them to embrace civilian life with optimism and use the skills and experience acquired during their military service productively.
Brig. Gen. Baraza also urged the retirees to maintain the discipline, integrity, patriotism and resilience cultivated during their years of service.
He assured them that the UPDF remains committed to supporting the welfare of veterans through the Directorate of Veteran Affairs.
Speaking on behalf of the retirees, Capt. Boaz Barigye Kazinduki, the senior-most among the junior officers, thanked the UPDF and SFC leadership for the guidance, opportunities and enabling environment that allowed them to serve the country in different capacities.
Kazinduki also thanked the retirees’ families for standing with them and enduring the sacrifices associated with military service.
The ceremony was attended by brigade commanders, directors, senior and junior officers, non-commissioned officers, spouses and relatives of the retirees.
