Kampala Metropolitan Police on Tuesday August 11, 2026 announced the arrest of 17 suspects in connection with the murder of SC Villa captain David Owor.
Police said those arrested include five key suspects, nine associates of the prime suspects and three people suspected of dealing in stolen phones.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Racheal Kawala, the key suspects allegedly admitted involvement in attacks on members of the public. They reportedly identified several other suspected accomplices during interrogation.
Police investigations indicate that the group allegedly moved together, targeting unsuspecting people around Nsambya, Nabisaalu, Kirombe and Makindye.
Investigators allege that on the night of August 4, 2026, members of the group attacked Owor and robbed him of his mobile phone. Some suspects linked to the group remain at large.
Police have since recovered an iPhone 14 Pro Max suspected to have belonged to Owor. The phone was recovered at Usafi Taxi Park near Usafi Market in Kampala.
Further searches at suspects’ residences in Gangu Village and Kasubi reportedly yielded several exhibits.
Among the items recovered were two pairs of shoes, including one allegedly bearing bloodstains, and a pair of shin guards suspected to have belonged to Owor.
Police also recovered a canister of pepper spray, a motorcycle and other exhibits now forming part of the investigation.
Kawala said investigators are pursuing the remaining suspects and other people believed to be associated with the group.
Police said investigations into Owor’s murder remain ongoing, with further updates expected as inquiries progress.
