Police in Kisoro District have arrested the District Service Commission chairperson and a businessman over an alleged Shs5 million job recruitment bribe.
The two were arrested on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, following complaints of alleged extortion, corruption and abuse of office.
Police identified the suspects as Erastus Nshaka, 64, chairperson of the Kisoro District Service Commission, and Aliphonsi Muhanika, 61, a businessman.
Nshaka is a resident of Kanyabukungu Village, Gisorora Parish in Nyakabande Sub-county. Muhanika is from Nshora Village, Mabungo Parish in Nyarusiza Sub-county.
Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson SP Nelson Tumushime said the duo allegedly solicited Shs5 million from a person seeking employment through the District Service Commission.
The suspects are being held at Kisoro Central Police Station as investigations continue.
Tumushime said the case file has been submitted to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for consent to prosecute.
If consent is granted, the suspects will be arraigned before court to answer the charges preferred against them.
Police urged people who may have experienced extortion or irregularities during public service recruitment to report to the nearest police station.
“Police remains committed to ensuring transparency, fairness and accountability in public service recruitment,” Tumushime said.
He also warned public officials against abusing their positions for personal gain, saying the law would be enforced without fear or favour.
