A 20-year-old Senior Five student of Kigata High School has been found dead at her family home in Kabale District.
Police identified the deceased as Babra Katusiime, a resident of Ahamurangara Village, Bugarama Parish in Buhara Sub-county.
The incident was reported on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at about 6:00 p.m. Police are treating the death as a suspected suicide.
According to Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson SP Nelson Tumushime, Katusiime had earlier told her mother that she would not attend school that day because she had no examination to sit.
Her mother reportedly left her at home at about 7:00 a.m. and went to cultivate. When she returned at around 6:00 p.m., she discovered that her daughter had died.
Police appealed to people experiencing serious emotional, financial or family difficulties to seek support from trusted family members, friends, religious leaders, local leaders or health workers.
Tumushime also cautioned the public against taking or circulating photographs and videos from such scenes, saying the practice disrespects the deceased and causes further distress to grieving families.
