The Electoral Commission has ordered fresh Local Council One elections in selected villages in Wakiso, Kampala and Iganga after results from the affected areas could not be legally ascertained and declared.

The directive was announced by Electoral Commission Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi following a review of the disputed administrative unit elections.

In Wakiso District, fresh elections will be held in Abayita Ababiri, Bulamu Deputy Zone, Kasero, Kirimamboga Tomi, Kireka ‘D’ Village, Kabuuma Cell and Buwambo Cell.

Busei ‘B’ Village in Iganga District and Kasaato Zone in Kampala are also affected by the decision.

According to the Commission, results from the affected villages could not be ascertained, declared and published in accordance with the law.

“Accordingly, the Commission, under MIN/COM/012/2026, hereby informs you that a repeat of this election will be conducted on a date to be communicated in due course,” the EC said in a notice.

The Commission cited Article 61(1)(d) of the Constitution, which mandates it to ascertain, publish and declare election results.

The latest directive follows the nationwide LC1 elections held on July 28, 2026, covering 71,214 villages across the country.

Following the polls, Byabakama announced that elections would have to be repeated in 1,135 villages where voting either failed to take place or could not be successfully completed.

Among the problems reported were disruptions and interference with polling, violence, destruction of election materials, tied results, disputes over voters’ registers and the death of some nominated candidates.

The Electoral Commission has also been reviewing more than 500 petitions arising from the LC1 elections.

Some of the petitions have since been resolved, while others remain under consideration.

The Commission is expected to announce the date for the fresh elections in the affected villages in due course.
