The Catholic Diocese of Soroti is mourning the death of Rev. Fr. Romanus Etwap following a head-on road collision in Soroti City.
The accident occurred shortly before midnight on September 2, 2026, near HASS Petrol Station, when the vehicle Fr. Etwap was travelling in collided with a Fuso truck.
Preliminary reports indicate that the priest sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after the crash. The exact circumstances surrounding the collision were yet to be established.
Photographs taken at the scene show the priest’s vehicle with extensive damage to its front section and windscreen. The Fuso truck also sustained damage to its front.
In a condolence message, the Catholic Diocese of Soroti described Fr. Etwap as a dedicated, brilliant and devoted priest who served the Church with humility and unwavering faith.
The Diocese said his pastoral commitment, eloquent preaching and selfless service would remain etched in the hearts of the people he served.
“Death has indeed robbed us of a true servant of God,” the condolence message reads in part.
The Diocese described his death as a major loss to Soroti, the wider Catholic Church and everyone who knew him.
It said Fr. Etwap lived his vocation fully as a prayerful and hardworking priest who remained close to his flock.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by the Diocese in due course.
