BUIKWE: The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) Coordinator for Buikwe District, Kabuye Badiru Mpoza, Thursday November 5, 2026 pledged Shs200 million towards organising the Greater Mukono PLU Baraza, as the movement intensifies efforts to strengthen its grassroots structures and address allegations of fraud and internal divisions.

Mpoza made the commitment during a regional PLU leadership meeting held at the Mukono District headquarters, bringing together coordinators from Mukono, Buikwe, Buvuma and Kayunga districts.

The meeting, chaired by the Greater Mukono PLU Coordinator, Jimmy Lwanga, resolved that Buikwe District would host the forthcoming regional Baraza, which is expected to bring together members and supporters of the movement from across the four districts.

Mpoza’s financial commitment was welcomed by fellow coordinators, who also pledged to contribute towards the successful organisation of the event.

During the meeting, Mpoza also presented new PLU membership registration books for Buikwe District after the initial books supplied to the district were filled up.

The development highlights the movement’s ongoing membership registration efforts in Buikwe as its leadership seeks to consolidate support and expand its grassroots structures.

The meeting, however, exposed growing concerns over individuals allegedly exploiting the PLU name to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.

Several district coordinators reported that suspected fraudsters had infiltrated the movement and were illegally collecting money from people under the pretext of registering them as PLU members and issuing membership numbers.

The leaders expressed concern that such activities were damaging the movement’s reputation and undermining efforts to attract new supporters.

Mukono PLU leaders further reported that some individuals claiming to represent the movement had allegedly conducted unauthorised operations targeting Mukono District local government employees.

According to the leaders, the suspects posed as anti-corruption investigators, apprehended and detained district employees, allegedly with the intention of extorting money from them.

The allegations prompted Lwanga to call upon the Mukono District Police Commander (DPC) to investigate and apprehend those implicated in the alleged illegal arrests and extortion.

He also directed PLU coordinators across the region to identify and report individuals collecting money from members of the public in exchange for registration in the movement.

Lwanga emphasised that PLU membership registration should not be used as an opportunity for individuals to enrich themselves at the expense of unsuspecting supporters.

The regional coordinator also cautioned members against internal conflicts, saying unnecessary leadership wrangles could weaken the movement’s mobilisation efforts.

He urged existing PLU members to welcome new supporters and avoid confrontations that could discourage people from joining the movement.

At the same time, Lwanga advised new entrants to respect leaders and members who had already established structures within the organisation.

He said mutual respect, unity and cooperation among members would be essential in strengthening PLU’s presence throughout Greater Mukono.

The meeting also discussed strategies for expanding the movement’s support base, strengthening district coordination and improving membership registration.

With Buikwe selected to host the forthcoming Greater Mukono PLU Baraza, Mpoza’s Shs200 million pledge places him at the centre of preparations for what regional leaders hope will be a major mobilisation event.

The Baraza is expected to provide a platform for PLU members from Mukono, Buikwe, Buvuma and Kayunga to engage their leaders, discuss challenges affecting the movement and agree on strategies for strengthening its grassroots presence.
