The sinking Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) President, Patrick Amuriat, has boldly, without any fear sais that Besigye cannot be allowed to control the party any more.
Amuriat has also criticized Besigye for not allowing the elected leaders to independently carry on their duties.
The situation arose after Dr. Kizza Besigye called for the party to be liberated from what he described as the current leadership’s self-centered pursuits.
Amuriat expressed his disappointment in Besigye’s remarks, highlighting that they had previously regarded him as a peacemaker within the party. He described the recent actions by Besigye as divisive and undermining the opportunity for party reconciliation.
Amuriat asserted that the FDC would no longer seek guidance from Besigye, considering his conflicted status. He also accused Besigye of attempting to stage a coup against the party’s leadership through his mobilization efforts.
Amuriat underlined the democratic procedures in place for leadership changes and criticized Besigye’s approach as undemocratic.
The FDC president emphasized that leadership positions, including that of the party president, are determined through the national delegates’ conference, and the process should be carried out democratically. He noted that there were multiple founding members of the FDC who shared the responsibility for its progress.
Besigye’s press conference served as a platform for him to express his discontent with Amuriat’s leadership. He announced his intention to mobilize party members to work towards liberation. Besigye, who had previously served two terms as the party’s leader, clarified that he was not seeking further leadership roles but was focused on securing equal representation and freedom for the country.
Besigye highlighted the critical importance of liberating both the party and the nation. He mentioned that the party leaders would soon announce the program for these efforts.
